The life and work of the Honey Bee
Crokers Bee Farm is a family run farm with sheep and beef cattle, a vegetable garden, fruit garden and allotments and a variety of poultry including ducks, geese and hens.
Our dedicated Bee classroom will allow students to participate and explore further the amazing life and work of the Honey bee.
How bees make honey, wax, collect pollen and propolis; Students can feel and touch these products and discuss their uses.
You will look and find the Queen and workers in our large observation hive.
Role play the duties of different Bees.
Discover the tools of a bee keeper and parts of a bee hive and put on a bee suit; Measure the cells on a piece of honeycomb.
Using overhead projection, work cards, drawings and measurements students will investigate the life cycle of the Honey bee and its importance to everybody.
Using various flora exhibits, students can investigate pollination and its importance for farming.
A brief garden walk will also outline many bee friendly plants that are important to bees and Bumblebees.
Our demonstration workshop will include a tour to our Apiary (up to 15 hives), examination of the Bee accessories in Bee store room.

Croker’s Bee farm provides a hands on, interactive workshop on bees. The workshop includes an Observation Hive where children can spot the queen, worker and drones in a safe environment. Examination of the bee accessories in the bee store room & do some fun activities which enable the children to develop an understanding of the duties of different bees & the massive importance of the Honey bee in our environment. Having watched a short video of pollination the children will discuss how human activities effect pollination. Children will tour our apiary and note the plants and flowers that encourage the production of honey. Children will be enabled to develop their scientific skill set as they observe, plan, discuss, investigate, record & re-evaluate through an engaging & and inspiring child centered workshop.
Croker's Bee Farm is 12km from Mallow, in the village of Doneraile, Co. Cork.
Directions from Doneraile:
Coach and car access – via Beech Walk entrance 0.5km north of village.
Pedestrian access to Doneraile Park from village – use archway at “Eily’s” on main street.
